FA Charges Manchester City for Player Misconduct in Tottenham Draw
Manchester City faces charges from the Football Association for failing to control their players in a heated confrontation with referee Simon Hooper during a 3-3 draw with Tottenham.
The incident occurred when Hooper’s decision not to allow City an advantage led to a set-to in the final minutes of play. Erling Haaland, who vehemently contested the decision, will not face personal charges for his behavior or a tweet sent after the match.
The controversy arose when Hooper initially signaled City could take advantage after Haaland was fouled but later blew the whistle to call playback. City has been charged under rule E20.1, with the club having until Thursday to appeal. Haaland escaped censure for his social media post, as it fell outside the criteria implying bias or attacking the official’s integrity.
The incident adds to concerns about referee treatment, prompting discussions on stricter enforcement against disrespectful conduct. Previously, City was fined £75,000 for failing to control players during a match against Arsenal in February.
